| Bayside Studios - In the Works
Hey it's me, the 'Insider'. The 'Mole'. The 'Man with
the Inside Plan'. I've managed to infiltrate the ranks and
security at Bayside Studios long enough to plant my cameras and
microphones around the office to get the inside scoop on what's
happening. Hehe.
Take a peek behind closed doors to see what those guys are up to.
This area will offer teasers for their upcoming software titles.
I'll leak out as much information as I can get about what they're
doing. Shhhhhh. Don't talk too loud-- we don't want them
to catch on and find me! Oops, gotta run, they're onto me...
I've been snooping around the developer's area and it looks like
their new game is going to create a stir in the PocketPC
world. Quigley's Quest is a fast action, side-scroller arcade
game with the feel of the "classic" scrollers like the
"Plumber Brothers", but with the slow pace of
classic "search and dexterity" platform games like Aztec
and Prince of Persa . It looks awesome! It's got tons of
levels, hidden stuff everywhere, and fast, addictive gameplay.
Drat! I forgot to get some screenshots, as I was too busy
playing it!
I'll sneak back into the lab in the next few days and get some
screenshots for preview. It looks like the game is almost
done, and I hear they are talking about releasing a limited BETA
soon while they tweak the remaining levels and graphics. I'll
keep you posted.
UPDATE! - I snuck back in the lab late last night and got
a few screenshots. Tee hee! Here
they are...
Those guys at Bayside Studios are hard at work currently building
a developer's API for PocketPC and HandHeld PC devices, specifically
designed for writing high-speed graphics-intensive applications
(i.e. video games) for the PocketPC platform. The goal of the
API is platform and hardware independence-- write your application
once and have it compile and run automatically on dozens of
different PocketPC architectures. I've seen it in action and
it looks impressive so far.
In fact, the Jewels videogame
(and the upcoming scroller Quigley's Quest) is
written entirely using this new library! It's a cool game, and
showcases a bunch of the features of the new library. If you
are impressed with what you see for the possibilities of this type
of a library and what you can do with it, check back-- I'll keep
digging to find out more and let you know... you can also send an
email to beta@baysidestudios.com
and let them know...
